Xiaomi All Set to Launch Mi 6X (or Mi A2) at company's event on April 25

Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone maker is likely working on three new models including the Mi 6X, Mi Max 3 and the Mi 7 for launch this year. The flagship Mi 7 is expected to arrive at a later half of this year while the Mi 6X and Mi Max 3 could debut early. The Chinese company has now sent invite for an event on April 25 where it could announce the much rumored Mi 6X.

The Xiaomi Mi 6X will be the successor to last year’s Mi 5X, which was launched in China last year in July. The Mi 5X was a different device for the Chinese company since it retailed as Mi A1 based on Google’s Android One stock program in select markets. The Mi 6X is also rumored to be launched as Mi A2 with Android One branding in key markets like India.

The information regarding the launch of new smartphone by Xiaomi on April 25 in China was posted by the company on Weibo. The announcement was followed by a tweet from Wang Xiang, Xiaomi’s Senior Vice President, who confirmed that the event will take place at Wuhan University, which is also the Alma mater of company founder Lei Jun. While Xiang did not the detail product launching on April 25, he went on to add, “Are you excited to find out which device it is?”

Xiaomi Mi 6X (or Mi A2) has been a part of multiple leaks in the past and has also stopped by at TENAA, China’s telecom regulatory for certification. While some of the specifications were detailed by the listing, a leak this week claimed that Mi 6X will be powered by MediaTek Helio P60 SoC, an octa-core chipset with four Cortex A73 cores similar to Snapdragon 835. However, it fails against Snapdragon 835 with Mali-G73 MP3 GPU.

Expected Specifications of Xiaomi Mi 6X

It is expected to feature a 5.99-inch display with Full HD+ resolution and might come only in 4GB RAM and 64GB storage option. The smartphone is said to feature an updated camera setup with a primary 12-megapixel sensor at the back using Sony IMX486 sensor along with 1.25 micron pixel size. It could be paired with a IMX376 sensor having a higher resolution of 20-megapixels. The selfie shooter is also likely to stick with Sony IMX376 sensor.

The Xiaomi Mi 6X will launch with MIUI 9 when it gets official while Mi A2 will follow with Android One program. The smartphone is expected to pack a 2,910mAh battery.
