LG announced the 2018 version of the V30, aka the V30S ThinQ, at MWC 2018 in Barcelona. It did not however divulge pricing and availability specifics, something that the company has announced now. The V30S ThinQ will be available for buying in South Korea, starting from March 9, at 1048,300 won which roughly translates to Rs 63,783. LG also has a Plus variant, to boot, that will come with more storage — 256GB as opposed to the standard that comes with 128GB — for 1097,800 won which roughly translates to Rs 66,694.
The V30S ThinQ has the same specs as the original V30 from last year, but, comes with more RAM (6GB), more storage (up to 256GB), Android 8.0 Oreo and lots of artificial intelligence. The company is touting two features: Vision AI (for image recognition similar to Google Lens) and Voice AI (a set of 32 voice commands working alongside the Google Assistant): everything atop LG’s UX skin though.
The V30S ThinQ has a 6-inch QHD+ 18:9 Full Vision display with a 2880×1400 pixel resolution, which roughly translates to 538ppi. It is powered by a top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. It is backed by a 3,300mAh battery with support for both fast and wireless charging.
The LG V30S ThinQ comes with a dual camera system on the rear, consisting of one 16-megapixel standard angle (f/1.6 aperture) and one 13-megapixel 120 degrees wide angle (f/1.9 aperture) lens. LG is touting the V30’s rear camera system as the world’s first camera system to ship with an aperture of f/1.6 which should technically entail in outstanding low light photography because it may help the phone capture more light. In addition, the dual camera system on-board the V30 uses crystal clear glass lens instead of plastic and that should also aid in better photos.
On the front, the V30S ThinQ sports a 5-megapixel camera with a “wide” 90-degree field of view.
On the outside, the V30S ThinQ comes with a ‘minimalist’ design, consisting of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and metal, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Additionally, it is also dust and water resistant – IP68-certified – as also MIL-STD-810G certified so it can technically survive harsh environment.
