In just a few weeks the biggest names in tech are going to be seen at the Mobile World Congress 2018 to unveil some new products. Samsung, for example, is expected to reveal the much-hyped Galaxy S9 flagship. Sony will also be attending the event and is rumoured to unveil a few smartphones of its own. One of them could be the Xperia XZ2 thanks to an accidental name drop on Twitter recently.
Irish telecom service Three Ireland in a reply to a user query on Twitter about the Xperia XA2 accidentally revealed that the XZ2 will soon come to Ireland instead. A Twitter user by the name of Mike tweeted to the carrier asking about when the XA2 would be coming to Ireland. The carrier replied, “Hi Mike, we won’t be ranging the XA2, but will range the XZ2 which will be coming soon.” The tweet was later deleted, but not before Xperia Blog managed to take a screenshot of it.
While the tweet doesn’t reveal when exactly the Xperia XZ2 will be launching, it does suggest that Sony could unveil it soon. This further suggests that the XZ2 could be among the smartphones Sony plans to unveil at MWC 2018 later this month. From previous rumours, we know that Sony is planning to announce the Xperia XZ Pro which will feature an 18:9 4K display, dual rear cameras and will be powered by a Snapdragon 845 chipset.
Sony earlier this year announced the Xperia XA2, XA2 Ultra and Xperia L2 at CES 2018. Earlier this week, the company launched the Xperia L2 in India at Rs 19,990. The mid-range smartphone highlights an 8-megapixel wide-angle selfie camera, 3300mAh battery and a fingerprint sensor on the back among other things.
