The Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus was originally slated to make an appearance with the flagship Xiaomi Mi 6. Evidently, it did not happen. Though there have already been multiple leaks and rumors surrounding the Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus, suggesting the smartphone will be unveiled at a later date. A new leak also indicates the smartphone is still in the works. The leak shows the back panel of what’s believed to be the Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus.
The leaked image initially surfaced in China and was spotted by Slashleaks. The image shows the rear panels of both, the Xiaomi Mi 6 and the Mi 6 Plus side by side. Clearly, the two are very similar in design except for one major change – the size. The Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus panel is considerably larger whereas the back of the phone is the same as that of the Mi 6.
The phone also sports the dual rear camera circular cutouts placed horizontally on the top left and the cutout for the dual LED flash next to the camera. The logo is placed towards the bottom. The rear panel shows no fingerprint sensor confirming that Xiaomi will stick with the physical home button embedded with the sensor for the Mi 6 Plus.
While Xiaomi hasn’t yet officially commented on reasons behind the delay in the launch of Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus, the industry experts are citing production issues as the reason. According to reports, issues with the display are the main culprit.
Xiaomi will reportedly use a display similar to Xiaomi Mi 6, the manufacturing of which is proving to be difficult for the company. However, with the back panel appearing in the wild, the device might finally be on track and a launch imminent in the coming weeks.
Before the back panel, there have been Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus cases leaked online which showed a similar design. However, the one difference in the case design was that the camera flash cutout was placed on the right of the lens instead of on the left as in seen in the most recent back panel. The back case appeared just a week ago, further strengthening the belief that the phone launch might not be too far off.
